I Wonder: The Journey of the Wise Tortoise and the Curious Otter

‘I Wonder’ is an illustrated and written exploration of self-reflections examining how we perceive ourselves and our surroundings. It’s intended as a tool to improve one’s state of mind. Through the journey of two anthropomorphised characters, the Wise Tortoise and the Curious Otter, the Otter discovers the importance of slowing down, letting go, reflecting, and viewing the world from a different perspective through the insightful words of the long-lived Tortoise.

‘Stonehenge’ is a response to the ISTD brief ‘Mapping the World’ that asked participants to typographically, communicate, and identify an intriguing insight that aids our understanding of the world. Stonehenge is a location of mystery. There are never-ending questions about how it was built, who, and why it was built. It is a mystery of the lives lived 5,000 years ago on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. This project explores different theories surrounding Stonehenge.

Ancho is a display sans typeface created in 2020 by Beatriz Lozano a Mexican-American designer, typographer and educator. Through Mexican cuisine and the architecture of the Teotihuacán pyramids, Ancho came to life. The word ancho in Spanish translates to ‘wide’. Yet in Mexican cuisine, it is also the name of the Mexican chilli pepper from Puebla, Mexico.

The Downfall of Cyrus Haley

Cyrus Haley, an arsonist in the 1870’s, burnt down five buildings in Auckland. He was regarded as a ‘gentleman’ and well-respected in his day, but he was angry at a man called Thomas Russel, an upper-class gentleman, something Haley was not. Hence his hate grew like an inferno.

Veggie to the Table

This project aimed to identify a small task which greatly impacts our environment. Veggie to the Table seeks to inform users about the benefits of growing a vegetable garden and the polluting and detrimental effects of buying from your local supermarket can have on the environment and your health. It provides a detailed guide on when to plant and harvest vegetables and information on caring for your little garden.
