Ancho ‘Type Specimen’

2022 Editorial Design University Project Assignment Two ‘Type Specimen’.

In this project, we were asked to identify a typeface produced in the last ten years that we feel changed the world of type and create a typographic specimen. For this project, I created two zines to go alongside an editorial publication about twenty Typefaces that changed the World.

Ancho is a display sans typeface created in 2020 by Beatriz Lozano a Mexican-American designer, typographer and educator. Through Mexican cuisine and the architecture of the Teotihuacán pyramids, Ancho came to life. The word ancho in Spanish translates to ‘wide’. Yet in Mexican cuisine, it is also the name of the Mexican chilli pepper from Puebla, Mexico.
