Twenty Typefaces that Changed the World

2022 Editorial Design University Project Assignment One, ‘Twenty Typefaces’.

This editorial publication seeks to find 20 typefaces that changed the world. For this assignment we were given a set of typefaces, of which we had to choose 19, leaving the 20th to be of our choosing. Someone who we believe is changing the way type is created or pushes the boundaries and/or stereotypes in the type world.

The 19 typefaces include Garamond, Meta, Gotham, Blackletter and many more.  This publication has been ordered and designed using the type classification system, ending with the typeface 'Ancho' the typeface which I believe pushes boundaries in the type world.

Ancho is a display sans typeface created in 2020 by Beatriz Lozano a Mexican-American designer, typographer and educator. Through Mexican cuisine and the architecture of the Teotihuacán pyramids, Ancho came to life. The word ancho in Spanish translates to ‘wide’. Yet in Mexican cuisine, it is also the name of the Mexican chilli pepper from Puebla, Mexico.
